About The Position

The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) is seeking a Youth Policy Research Contractor to support tracking and analysis of U.S. federal and state policy developments at the intersection of technology, artificial intelligence, and education, as well as research and programming under FPF's broader Youth Policy & Governance portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for a policy researcher with strong legislative tracking and writing skills who is interested in the fast-evolving landscape of youth online safety, AI governance, and education technology policy.

Requirements

  • Experience with legislative and regulatory tracking, policy research, or a related analytical role.
  • Excellent research, writing, and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate complex legislative and regulatory developments into clear, concise, audience-ready analysis under deadline.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to track and prioritize a high volume of bills and developments across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with (or strong interest in developing expertise in) privacy law, AI governance, and/or education policy, including frameworks such as FERPA and COPPA.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience covering technology, privacy, education, or child/youth policy is a strong plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with coursework in public policy, technology policy, or related field (preferred); current students in Masters, Law, or other relevant professional programs are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain a real-time legislative tracker of federal and state activity, including bills and regulations on youth safety (app store accountability, platform design and safety, age assurance, screen time, social media), AI (chatbots, independent verification organizations, sandboxes), privacy (youth and student privacy, comprehensive privacy, biometrics), and education technology (AI use in schools, ed-tech vendor contracting).
  • Track relevant federal agency actions, including developments related to FERPA, COPPA, and emerging AI and child safety frameworks.
  • Help research, draft, and produce periodic legislative intelligence reports tailored to the FPF stakeholders’ priorities, as well as brief updates flagging significant breaking developments (e.g., major votes, regulatory announcements).
  • Help prepare materials for periodic presentations to and discussions with stakeholders interested in these topics.
  • Support the project lead with day-to-day coordination and implementation of contract activities and deliverables.
  • Support FPF's portfolio of work on Youth Policy & Governance, including activities such as research and writing assistance for new publications on topics such as age assurance, youth well-being and digital governance.
  • Support member community calls, planning for other youth policy and governance-focused events, and research for a periodic Youth Policy and Governance newsletter.
