About The Position

Responsible for the continuous religious formation of students in grades 9-12. This role involves collaborating with and overseeing the spiritual formation of these students, ensuring adherence to the vision of the Diocese and the mission of the Parish. The Youth Minister will assist youth in forming intergenerational relationships within the liturgical and ministerial life of the parish, fostering active participation in the parish community. This position collaborates with the Pastor and Director of Faith Formation to grow the youth ministry program. The role requires executing a well-ordered and mission-aligned youth ministry program that combines faith formation with recreational activities on a weekly basis. Additionally, the Youth Minister plans and leads students in retreats, conferences, and similar activities, both internally and externally. Ensuring Safe Environment policies are followed diligently, including maintaining proper adult-to-youth ratios, is crucial. Collaboration with the Faith Formation department for administrative duties such as registration, documentation, and purchase orders is also part of the role. Professional development through ongoing study and education is expected, along with undertaking other assigned projects and tasks.

Requirements

  • Active member of the Catholic Church in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology with religious education emphasis or bachelor’s degree in education with Catholic adult formation certification.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Familiarity with databases.
  • Possess leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate.
  • Demonstrated history of good judgment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
  • Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor or Chief of Staff promptly.
  • Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the youth in forming intergenerational relationships within the liturgical and ministerial life of the parish.
  • Collaborate with Pastor and Director of Faith Formation in growing the ministry.

  • Plan and lead students in retreats, conferences, and other similar activities, either external with other parishes/diocesan or internal at St. Maria Goretti.
  • Ensure all Safe Environment policies are followed diligently at all events, including but not limited to proper adult to youth ratio.
  • Collaborate with Faith Formation department in ancillary duties such as youth registration, documentation of incidents, purchase orders, etc.
  • Engage in professional development through ongoing study, education, workshops, etc.
  • Undertake all other projects, tasks, etc., as assigned.
