About The Position

The Youth Mentor will work collaboratively with the Mentor Coordinator at the Curwin Circle Housing Development in Lynn, MA. This position is responsible for providing guidance, support, and positive role modeling to boys enrolled in the mentoring program, particularly those who may lack consistent father figures. The Youth Mentor focuses on building trusting relationships, promoting social-emotional growth, and supporting youth in developing life skills, academic success, and positive decision-making. This role engages directly with program participants through structured activities, mentorship, and consistent support to encourage positive development. Schedule: Part-time position (10 hours per week); includes after-school hours and occasional evenings for program activities and events.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school senior or older.
  • Experience working with youth, particularly adolescent males, strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by youth in single-parent or father-absent households.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trust and establish appropriate boundaries with youth.
  • Reliable, consistent, and committed to youth development.
  • Ability to pass background checks, including CORI, SORI, and DCF clearance.
  • Required trainings include CPR/First Aid and any additional trainings required by Centerboard, Inc.
  • Required skills include the ability to prioritize tasks, communicate effectively and professionally, demonstrate flexibility in a changing environment, and maintain strong organizational skills.
  • Employees are required to attend refresher trainings to maintain certification compliance and demonstrate competency in all required training areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive, consistent relationships with assigned youth.
  • Serve as a positive male role model, demonstrating appropriate behavior and values.
  • Facilitate individual and group mentoring sessions focused on life skills, conflict resolution, and personal development.
  • Support youth with goal setting, academic encouragement, and future planning.
  • Engage youth in structured activities such as workshops, recreational outings, and group discussions.
  • Monitor and document youth progress, behaviors, and participation in accordance with program requirements.
