About The Position

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is seeking dedicated Youth Mentors to join their team, focusing on making a positive impact in the lives of at-risk youth residing in male group homes. This role involves working with adolescents who exhibit challenging behaviors, stemming from experiences of abuse, neglect, and trauma. The Youth Mentor will provide direct service delivery, reporting to the Youth Care Supervisor, and will be responsible for supervising residents, ensuring their safety and well-being, and accompanying them on external activities. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to mentor and influence the lives of vulnerable youth.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalency completion certification required.
• Certified CPR/First Aide, and crisis intervention required.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and proof of active insurance.
• Good organizational, written, and verbal skills.
• Dependability, discretion, and good judgment are essential.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, co-workers, and the general public.

Nice To Haves

• Associates Degree in Human Service field preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth/at risk youth in an organized/structured setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a supportive environment for youth.
• Assist adolescents with daily routines including meals, hygiene, medication administration, and general upkeep of their living space.
• Transport individuals and groups of adolescents for appointments or field trips.
• Ensure the daily security and upkeep of the facility.
• Plan, coordinate, and participate in recreational and social activities.
• Communicate with supervisors and staff regarding behavior issues and resident needs.
• Implement and monitor client case plans as directed.
• Participate in in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
• Supervise chores and perform light housekeeping duties.
• Respond to and document critical incidents and emergencies.
• Assist with youth intakes and discharges.
• Document activities and observations in the logbook.
• Conduct group meetings with youth to discuss issues and concerns.
• Instruct youth on appropriate behaviors and independent living skills.
• Observe and document adolescent behavior, development, and needs.
• Maintain daily written records and logs of observations.
• Provide responsive service to external agencies such as ChildNet, The Department of Children and Families, and The Department of Juvenile Justice.
