About The Position

Are you passionate about connecting children, families, and caregivers with books, learning, and new experiences? Do you enjoy creating welcoming, engaging environments, and helping young patrons and caregivers make the most of library services? Would you like to work at a service-focused organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the community? If so, join us as our Youth Library Services Ambassador! In this role, you will provide a warm and welcoming presence at the Youth Services Desk, offering readers’ advisory, reference, and technology assistance to children, families, and caregivers. You will actively connect patrons with library services, resources, and programs while creating a positive and engaging library experience for all.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or LTA Certificate or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience working with children and families in a library or educationally comparable environment
  • Available to work evenings and weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with a diverse staff and patrons
  • Knowledge of current services, resources, and trends in library practices
  • Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Can listen, analyze, problem solve, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues
  • Works independently, prioritizes effectively, and adapts to changing workflows
  • Can operate a personal computer; has knowledge of ILS software, email, Windows, Excel, and basic word processing functions
  • Ability to learn, assist others, and perform basic troubleshooting on a variety of library technologies
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, reach overhead, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with children’s literature is highly desired
