About The Position

The Youth Leader II for the SBCUSD Extended Learning Program plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for youth participants. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising educational and recreational activities that promote personal growth, social development, and academic success. The Youth Leader II collaborates closely with school staff, parents, and community partners to ensure program goals align with the needs of the youth served. This role requires a proactive approach to mentoring, conflict resolution, and encouraging positive behavior among participants. Ultimately, the Youth Leader II contributes to the holistic development of young individuals, empowering them to reach their full potential within the extended learning framework.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with youth in educational, recreational, or community settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with youth, parents, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic knowledge of child development principles and youth behavior management techniques.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within youth programs or extended learning environments.
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, to effectively engage with diverse community members.
  • Training or certification in conflict resolution, mentoring, or youth counseling.
  • Familiarity with the SBCUSD community and its educational programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and facilitate age-appropriate educational and recreational activities that support youth development and learning objectives.
  • Supervise and mentor youth participants, promoting positive social interactions and addressing behavioral challenges constructively.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community organizations to coordinate resources and support services for program participants.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents, ensuring compliance with program policies and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and stay current with best practices in youth programming.
