TEMPORARY Youth Internship – Cheyenne Mountain State Park

About The Position

This internship will immerse you in all facets of Cheyenne Mountain State Park operations. You will spend time shadowing and assisting park staff, including park rangers, maintenance technicians, and naturalists. You will take on a major role in Cheyenne Mountain’s volunteer program, assisting with volunteer communications and administration. You will also spend some time helping to run our Visitor Center, where you will assist customers and learn more about how Colorado Parks and Wildlife works. This role will require both field and office work.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • If position requires operation of a motorized vehicle, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a current motor vehicle report.
  • Willing to work outside during inclement weather
  • Must be able to lift 75-100 pounds repeatedly during the course of a single workday
  • Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with little supervision
  • Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive , any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of power tool and hand tools preferred
  • Knowledge of small engine and other equipment maintenance and repair preferred
  • First Aid and CPR certifications may be required

Responsibilities

  • Assist park naturalists with educational programs
  • Shadow officers on ride-alongs
  • Attend park events both on and off property
  • Assist in managing Cheyenne Mountain State Park’s Terrain Hopper mobility access program
  • Answer questions about park resources, local wildlife, hunting/fishing and general area information
  • Answer incoming calls, handle inquiries, and/or direct to appropriate staff.
  • Sell hunting licenses, register OHVs/Snowmobiles/Boats, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
