About The Position

Highlands Ranch Metro District is seeking energetic and passionate Youth Flag Football Sports Officials for a part-time, seasonal role. This position runs through November, offering 8-15 hours of work per week. Officials will be responsible for calling plays, enforcing rules, ensuring smooth game operations, and maintaining a positive and safe environment for players, coaches, and fans. The role involves problem-solving, communication, and representing the district professionally.

Requirements

  • 14 years of age or older.
  • Attendance at officials training provided by the Highlands Ranch Metro District recreation staff is required.
  • Knowledge of officiating, sports, and recreation.
  • Skilled in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, officials, coaches, volunteers, participants, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Current CPR and First Aid preferred; or the ability to obtain certification within 1 month.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in sports or recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and enforce all flag football rules and adaptations.
  • Supervise and control conduct on the field in a safe and professional manner.
  • Attend all scheduled game dates.
  • Assist in recommending and evaluating improvements to programs for participant enjoyment.
  • Provide supervision at all playing fields and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Prepare fields for play if necessary.
  • Maintain visibility and availability to staff, coaches, participants, and fans to answer questions.
  • Listen to concerns, resolve problems, and correct inappropriate behavior.
  • Communicate any issues to the Field Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator.
  • Ensure the safety of participants, maintain discipline, make weather-based decisions, and assist with handling public complaints.
  • Perform first aid as required.
  • Comply with District and department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
