About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a Youth & Family Program Director to oversee and administer Youth & Family and Teen programming. This role involves fiscal management, financial development, program development and administration, community relations, volunteer leadership, strategic planning, and personnel administration. The Director will implement policies and procedures set by the Metropolitan Board of Directors and serve as a key member of the YMCA center and Metropolitan Los Angeles staff team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets for Youth & Family and Teen programs, ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Maintain systems of financial control, including variance reports, forecasting, and revenue/expense monitoring.
  • Make recommendations for program pricing and secure sufficient income to balance the operating budget.
  • Actively seek new income revenue through program development and promotional activities.
  • Oversee the growth and evaluation of the department, including special program thrusts and experimental efforts.
  • Manage special program events and services such as Parent's Night Out and fundraiser activities.
  • Responsible for membership retention for all Youth, Family, and Teen programs.
  • Implement and lead the Developmental Asset program with staff.
  • Handle member and parent complaints and requests promptly and effectively.
  • Develop and execute marketing plans for Youth, Family, and Teen programs.
  • Build relationships with local schools and organizations for collaboration on events, promotions, and activities.
  • Ensure high standards for member service through effective point of contact processes and member service training.
  • Conduct formal and ongoing evaluation of programs and staff.
  • Be accessible to members and parents for inquiries and event coverage.
  • Lead the Youth, Family, and Teen program planning effort, including statistical tracking and trend analysis.
  • Recruit and train volunteers on program standards, safety information, and member satisfaction.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and appraise Teen program staff and volunteers.
  • Assist staff in identifying and meeting developmental needs.
  • Fill Youth, Family, and Teen program volunteer vacancies according to Association policies.
  • Ensure the Youth, Family, and Teen Department is in working order, coordinating staff and volunteer schedules.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one conferences to achieve branch goals.
  • Maintain high staff morale and low staff turnover.
  • Act as a role model for staff and volunteers, adhering to the YMCA’s Code of Conduct.
  • Provide in-service training for all supervised staff and volunteers.
  • Provide leadership in volunteer development, emphasizing teamwork.
  • Develop and lead Youth, Family, and Teen Program Committees, recruiting members and chairs.
  • Act as a role model for proper member involvement techniques.
  • Consult and advise on the selection of board members, committee chairs, and members.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and supervise Teen Program department volunteers and parents.
  • Secure sufficient revenue to provide services consistent with established campaign goals.
  • Assist with the annual support campaign, organizing and coaching a division to meet its goal.
  • Provide staff leadership for Youth, Family, and Teen project funding, grant funding, special gifts solicitation, and fundraising events.
  • Serve as a center representative in the community, participating in selected organizations and activities.
  • Ensure safe implementation of by-laws, policies, goals, and procedures.
  • Oversee the safe use, maintenance, and operation of Center facilities and off-site locations for Youth, Family, and Teen Programs.
  • Manage public relations for Center Youth, Family, and Teen Programs through newsletters, brochures, and news releases.
  • Represent the YMCA in community organizations and events.
  • Develop, update, and manage the Youth, Family, and Teen Programs Risk Management Plan.
  • Administer the incident/accident claims process.
  • Work with staff to ensure proper registration, fee collection, and roster preparation for programs.
  • Make recommendations on facility development, planning, maintenance, and staff/member safety.
  • Provide leadership for volunteer/staff involvement in the Youth, Family, and Teen programs operating plan.
  • Provide leadership for volunteer/staff involvement in the center's strategic planning process.
  • Monitor and understand demographic, political, economic, and governmental trends affecting the service area.
  • Serve as a member of the Center Safety Committee, adhering to all safety standards and policies.
  • Manage the Safety and Risk Management Program.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values in all dealings.
