About The Position

The Youth & Family Camp Counselor plays a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children and families attending camp programs. This position is responsible for facilitating a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities that promote personal growth, teamwork, and positive relationships among campers. The counselor serves as a mentor and role model, guiding youth through challenges and encouraging their development in a nurturing setting. They collaborate closely with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of camp activities and uphold the camp’s values and safety standards. Ultimately, the counselor’s efforts contribute to memorable and impactful camp experiences that foster confidence, resilience, and community spirit among participants.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children or families in a camp, educational, or recreational setting.
• Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to pass a background check and comply with camp safety policies.
• Strong communication skills daily to connect with campers and their families, ensuring clear understanding and positive interactions.
• Leadership and organizational skills are essential for planning and executing engaging activities that meet the developmental needs of various age groups.
• Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills are frequently applied to address challenges that arise among campers or within the group dynamic.
• Empathy and emotional intelligence enable the counselor to provide meaningful support and encouragement, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
• Adaptability and teamwork skills are critical as counselors collaborate with staff and respond to the dynamic nature of camp life.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage with youth and family campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

• Provide emotional support and guidance to campers, helping them navigate social interactions and personal challenges in a positive manner.
