About The Position

The Youth Dormitory Support Specialist supervises youth in foster care who may exhibit trauma responses, using a trauma-informed approach to support their well-being, development, and preparation for adulthood. The role provides structure and support in a smoke-free, safe, stable, family-style dormitory and resource-home environment. Work is performed under the direction and supervision of a Program Director, YCP. The position involves potentially high stress from participant crises and possible exposure to vicarious trauma; staff are encouraged to prioritize self-care and seek support when needed. The position is full-time, hourly, and non-exempt, on the evening shift Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. It is part of the Youth Connected Program – Dorms and reports to the Youth Dormitory Support Specialist Supervisor. The program includes a foster family agency and an on-site dormitory that collaborates with mental health providers, Samueli Academy School, government agencies, and other partners. The work takes place in a family-style school dormitory serving foster youth in grades 7–12 who may have medical, behavioral, or mental health needs, and may involve verbal or physical threats. Duties may also take place in local and community settings, including schools and recreation locations, and may involve transporting youth. The environment includes frequent interruptions and moderate-to-high noise levels. The role requires maintaining crisis-intervention and First Aid/CPR proficiency, physical activity, and safe driving, sometimes in heavy traffic. Schedule modifications may be made based on Foundation or program needs.
