About The Position

Provides assistance for program participants in the classroom. Focuses on providing a quality experience to children and parents that embodies the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current CPR and 1st Aid Certification required within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Criminal Clearance, including fingerprints.
  • Health Exam Screening with Negative TB test and Negative Drug test screening.
  • Completion of online New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

Nice To Haves

  • College units preferred.
  • 6 months experience working with and supervising children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting supervisor in planning and implementing the program for children in accordance with YMCA policies and partnering agency specifications.
  • Assisting with curriculum development and implementation, and maintaining records and reports such as attendance and snack rosters.
  • Working in a team environment to ensure adequate program enrichment for participants.
  • Ensuring the program has necessary supplies and equipment, and reporting any issues to the direct supervisor.
  • Conducting health checks of children upon arrival to the program.
  • Preparing and developing age-appropriate lesson plans consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Presenting subject matter to students using various methods and techniques in a positive environment.
  • Supervising children, the classroom, and all activities.
  • Making ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Maintaining communication with parents and engaging them as volunteers.
  • Attending all staff meetings, trainings, and other YMCA functions as required by the Supervisor.
  • Maintaining open lines of communication with participants, staff, and supervisor.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
