About The Position

The Youth Development Specialist will play an integral role in our mission to support and inspire high school-aged Indigenous youth as they actively engage with their community and culture, successfully complete high school, pursue higher education, and join the workforce. The Specialist will participate in all levels of program planning, development, implementation of activities, and dissemination of program evaluation to ensure culturally aware and responsive services. The Specialist works closely with youth, local high school personnel, parents/guardians, colleges, and community partners to coordinate and provide a variety of college and career readiness programming and events. The Specialist is responsible for workshop facilitation; event coordination; overseeing and advising youth; follow up/retention services; community outreach; effective communication; completion of required documents and reports.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree plus two years’ relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in youth development/youth services with proven ability to engage and motivate youth.
Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, findings, and recommendations effectively with other team members, community members, and affiliated providers.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail.
Demonstrate strong leadership and mentor skills.
Strong ability to motivate high school youth and manage behavior problems in a positive manner.
Knowledge of youth development to include base knowledge of youth and homelessness, substance abuse, mental illness, and domestic violence as these areas relate to youth and their families.
Knowledge of the social, educational, cultural and economic development and needs of urban American Indians.
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
Must have the ability to lift and/or carry small parcels, packages and other items with a minimum weight of 25lbs, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle when necessary.
Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Must have at time of hire or be able to obtain a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 days of employment
Must have dependable transportation, valid driver’s license if operating a vehicle and must have automobile insurance coverage in compliance with the organization’s requirements
Must be available to work evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

Organize and collaborate with all PIC team members, school representatives, and community partners on implementation of program goals.
Serve as a lead facilitator/presenter of provided curricula.
Document and maintain youth participant records, in a confidential and timely manner, following all agency procedures.
Prepare data as required for submittal of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Participate in planning, implementation, and staffing for all youth programming including weekend and weekday evening events.
Conduct program orientation through presentations, networking, and outreach events.
Establish and maintain positive and appropriate professional relationships with high school youth. Supervise, motivate, and support youth participants while ensuring safety.
Responsible for recruitment and retention of youth participants in all activities.
Works closely with Program Manager to maximize operational efficiencies and meet performance goals.
Maintain and comply with agency confidentiality requirements.
Collaborate and work directly with Youth Development team members.
Participate in scheduled external and internal meetings and trainings.
Participate in other Phoenix Indian Center events, fundraisers, outreach opportunities, and special projects as needed.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
