JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Development Specialist ensures that clients, aged 14 – 24, receive a coordinated range of client-centered services to ensure completion of education and job training programs through the Learn to Earn Program. The Youth Development Specialist should possess empathy and a deep understanding of the needs of vulnerable youth populations while actively working to dismantle barriers such as poverty and limited access to opportunities stemming from inequality and economics insecurity.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree, preferred
  • 2 years' experience in related field and/or relevant life experiences.
  • Must have demonstrated case management skills and experience, knowledge of youth development
  • Strong passion for working with at-risk and minority youth
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others, even in challenging situations
  • Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft and Google platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle liability insurance
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations
  • Complete all required background checks

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management to youth/young adults ages 14 – 24 enrolled in employment and education programs.
  • Conduct comprehensive intake and assessments on clients.
  • Monitors cases by verifying clients’ attendance; observing and evaluating service strategy and responses; advocating for needed services; obtaining additional resources; intervening in crises; providing personal support.
  • Develop and guide youth through a service/plan in accordance with provisions stated by grant.
  • Track and record case information, complete forms and produce monthly attendance and case note reports.
  • Answer inquiries from potential program partners and incoming youth.
  • Develop ways to retain youth (ages 14-24) through motivation and encouragement.
  • Outreach and network with other youth serving programs and High Schools.
  • Provide client support services such as advocacy, mentorship, or resources to youth/young adults ages 14-24 enrolled in employment and education programs.
  • Participate in program development and workshop facilitation that will encourage and motivate youth to engage in our program.
  • Conduct detailed evaluations on clients to develop a service plan that will guide youth through our program.
  • Track and record case information for each client such as producing monthly attendance or writing case note reports and meeting with client’ monthly to re-evaluate their service plan.
  • Opportunities to travel outside of the office and into the communities we serve to connect and network with other youth serving programs like the Rhode Island Training School (RITS) and various High Schools across Rhode Island.
  • Ability and opportunity to travel and work with staff and our diverse populations of youth at all 4 Learn to Earn locations.
  • Willingness to create and/or implement various workshops for youth, including Life Skills, College and Career Readiness, Digital Literacy, Healthy Relationships, Financial Literacy, and others as youth needs dictate.
