About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising members, and evaluating activities provided within a specific program area, supporting the Red Shield Youth Centers priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. The role may involve overseeing special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participating in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, this role may provide supervision oversight to other Youth Development Professionals to ensure continuity of program services at unit/branch locations. The position involves building and maintaining professional relationships with all Centers members and their families to advance the mission of The Salvation Army. It also involves creating an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes, promoting and stimulating program participation, assisting with registration of new members and participating in their Centers orientation process, providing guidance and role modeling to members, and implementing and administering programs, services, and activities for Centers members effectively. The role may also oversee special programs and services such as Youth of Year programs or Youth of the Month.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Previous work in related field with Children and Youth preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
  • Ability to deal comfortably with stressful situations and follow emergency procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a safe and effective manners.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
  • Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.

Nice To Haves
