About The Position

This part-time role (18-22 hours/week) focuses on building genuine connections with middle school youth at the Mount Baker Middle School Club. The goal is to create a welcoming environment where youth can relax, have fun, try new things, and feel a sense of belonging. The Youth Development Professional will engage with youth through various activities like sports, gaming, art, STEM, music, and cooking, turning their interests into new opportunities. The role requires patience, consistency, and the ability to set positive boundaries, while showing up ready to build relationships and foster a welcoming atmosphere. The position is guided by the values of Fun, Respect, Integrity, Community, and Acceptance.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be available Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Build genuine connections with middle school youth.
  • Help make the Club a place where youth can relax, have fun, try new things, and feel like they belong.
  • Organize a game.
  • Help turn a youth's interest into a new activity.
  • Encourage a youth who's hesitant to join in.
  • Listen to youth.
  • Use sports, gaming, art, STEM, music, cooking, and personal interests to connect with youth and create opportunities for exploration.
  • Have fun with middle schoolers.
  • Be patient and consistent.
  • Set positive boundaries.
  • Show up ready to build relationships.
  • Help create a welcoming environment.
