About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising members, and evaluating activities within a specific program area, supporting the Red Shield Youth Centers' priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. The role may involve overseeing special programs and events like Keystone, Youth of the Year, and Awards Programs, and participating in other unit activities as needed. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, this position may provide supervision oversight to other Youth Development Professionals to ensure program continuity. A key aspect of this role is building and maintaining professional relationships with members and their families to advance The Salvation Army's mission. The professional will create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes, promote program participation, assist with new member registration and orientation, provide guidance and role modeling, and implement programs and services effectively. This role may also involve overseeing special programs such as Youth of the Year or Youth of the Month.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Previous work in related field with Children and Youth preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
  • If required, may have to possess a CDL level license.
  • Ability to deal comfortably with stressful situations and follow emergency procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task, ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a safe and effective manners.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

  • Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, supervises members and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, supporting the Red Shield Youth Centers priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship.
  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  • In absence of the Program Coordinator; may provide supervision oversight to other Youth Development Professionals to ensure continuity of program services at unit/branch locations.
  • Builds and maintains a professional relationship with all Centers members and their families in order to help advance the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes: Promotes and stimulates program participation.
  • Assists with registration of new members and participates in their Centers orientation process.
  • Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Implements and administers programs, services and activities for Centers members in an effective manner.
  • May oversee special programs and services such as Youth of Year programs or Youth of the Month.
