The San Diego County Office of Education PASS (Promoting Achievement and Student Success) AmeriCorps Program is seeking 35 full-time members to serve as Youth Development Mentors. This program focuses on mentoring and leadership for at-promise youth in gang-impacted neighborhoods across various school sites in San Diego County, serving students in grades 3-12. Members will provide prevention and intervention services in collaboration with partner schools, aiming to improve academics, school engagement, and attendance. This is achieved through meaningful mentoring relationships, 1:1 and small group character-building sessions, academic assistance, creating a safe space for students, and fostering a positive school climate via monthly school-wide engagement projects. The program's goals are to engage participating students and empower them to reach their fullest potential by becoming positive leaders. Members will be placed individually or in pairs at one of 30 partnering schools located in Oceanside, Vista, Valley Center, Escondido, Carlsbad, Spring Valley, and San Diego. The program offers extensive orientation, ongoing support and coaching, weekly/monthly meetings, opportunities to attend/serve at events with fellow AmeriCorps members, professional training relevant to service, career development, and networking within school sites, the PASS AmeriCorps program, the San Diego County Office of Education, and with community partners. The ideal candidate is a mature, motivated self-starter eager to make a positive difference in the community and the lives of the students served.
