The Youth Counselor works as scheduled, providing supervision, support and direction to children fostering their positive growth and development; maintains a hazard free, clean and orderly household; prepares meals to conform to menus; completes all required logs, forms and reports, participates in meetings as scheduled; accompanies groups or individual children for outside activities or appointments as scheduled. The role involves providing a warm, homelike atmosphere by establishing an individual relationship with each resident focusing on that resident's positive growth and development. This includes providing individualized care and supervision, ensuring an orderly schedule for residents, monitoring appointments, and ensuring youth's physical well-being including medication dispensing. The counselor communicates and enforces rules, applies discipline, and transports children to outside activities and appointments. They are responsible for maintaining a hazard-free, clean, and orderly household, preparing meals, and managing petty cash and other valuables. Completing required paperwork, participating in meetings, and ensuring treatment/permanency plans are carried out are also key duties. The role also includes organizing and facilitating independent living skills groups, recording client progress, participating in service planning, delivering services in accordance with goals, employing trauma-sensitive practices, providing counseling and support, ensuring adherence to medication regimens, and providing crisis intervention and behavior management. Reporting incidents and completing documentation in a timely fashion are essential. The counselor will also assist in residence household duties, train and supervise children in these skills, and attend supervision and meetings as scheduled. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
