About The Position

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking a Youth Corrections Officer 2 who will be responsible for monitoring youth daily activities; shift leader responsibilities by ensuring policy and procedures are followed; proper completion of required housing unit and/or security duties and act as a resource for other line staff.

Requirements

  • Six months (post graduation) as a Youth Corrections Officer I with a Promotional Recommendation Form from direct supervisor.
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010) if operating a personally owned vehicle on state business.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Perform Shift Leader responsibilities that ensure the proper completion of required documentation
  • Maintain equipment inventory (scans), room inspections and work crews
  • Ensure housing unit cleanliness, youth dress code compliance and youth scanning bands are secured
  • Maintain compliance of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) scanning
  • Ensure youth groups occur and program schedule is followed
  • Report areas of concern to supervisor and/or up-line manager
  • Monitor safety and security of youth by ensuring completion of pat searches of youth, searches of youth rooms, shift housing unit inspections, structured youth line movements to all scheduled activities
  • Facilitate behavior groups and co-facilitate treatment groups
  • Inform, teach and counsel youth in both one on one and group settings
  • Provide crisis intervention and higher level of supervision of youth at risk of self-harming behavior
  • Complete incident reports, document in log books, suicide prevention folders and head count sheets
  • Provide feedback to the Multi-disciplinary Team on each youth’s behaviors and progress toward meeting treatment and education goals
  • Serve as a Field Training Officer during on the job training by coaching, mentoring and evaluating new Youth Corrections Officer 1s
  • Perform other duties as assigned
