About The Position

MobilizeGreen, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, seeks Crew Leaders for its 2027 summer youth program. Crew Leaders co-lead high school youth in conservation projects, environmental education, and leadership development in the San Bernardino National Forest in California or the Superior National Forest in Minnesota. The program runs over two three-week cohorts, with training and administrative work before, between, and after the cohorts. Crew Leaders work in teams of five to six to support participant safety, camping excursions, personal development, environmental education, and project management. They represent MobilizeGreen on site and coordinate designated projects with partners. All Crew Leaders attend pre-program training, conducted in a virtual/in-person hybrid format. The term runs from late May through early August 2027. Training is May 31–June 12; the first cohort is June 13–July 3; administrative work is July 4–10; the second cohort is July 11–31; and closing, reporting, and administrative work is August 1–6. This is physically demanding, live-in work in challenging outdoor conditions. Crew Leaders may work on steep terrain, in rain, bugs, and extreme heat, and must be able to perform strenuous tasks including lifting up to 40 pounds. They are expected to stand, walk, and carry gear for up to eight hours per day, work a rotating schedule for projects and administrative tasks, and participate in rotating 24/7 on-call duty to support participants’ safety and well-being. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
