About The Position

CHIMO is seeking two full-time Care Counsellor positions for their Group Care Home, which provides a 24/7 supportive, educational, and nurturing environment for youth. The role involves helping youth develop essential life skills. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Social Work, Youth Support, Trauma-Informed Care, Residential Group Care, Mental Health, Behavioural Support, Family Support, and Community Services. The Care Counsellor will be part of a close-knit team.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education.
  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related Human Services fields.
  • Strong workplace skills, including effective communication, good writing skills, punctuality, ability to use workplace technology, and a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism.
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the role, including working shifts, working indoors and outdoors in all seasons, climbing stairs, completing household management tasks, and performing yard work.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care, strength-based approaches, Indigenous worldviews, child and youth development, child-parent attachment, and the therapeutic milieu of group care.
  • Level 2: Degree in Human Services.
  • Level 1: Diploma in Human Services, actively working toward a post-secondary degree, and/or relevant life or work experience.
  • A clear and current Criminal Record Check (issued within the last six months).
  • A clear and current Children's Services Intervention Record Check.
  • If degree obtained from an international institution, an ISQA Assessment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support, education, and nurturing to youth in a 24/7 caring, safe, home environment.
  • Help youth develop the skills they need to thrive.
  • Guide youth through challenges and help them feel safe and valued.
  • Complete household management tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, cooking, and grocery shopping.
  • Perform yard work including mowing lawns, planting gardens, raking leaves, and shovelling snow.
  • Physically interact with youth during recreation outings, etc.
