About The Position

Trails Park and Recreation District helps bring recreation, wellness, and connection to residents in the eastern Centennial area. They operate and maintain several parks, trails, open spaces, and facilities all designed to create places where people can get outside, be active, and spend time together. They also offer a wide range of programs for all ages, including youth sports, summer camps, fitness classes, community events, and activities for active aging. Whether it’s a youth program, a daily workout, or a neighborhood gathering, their goal is to make recreation experiences accessible, welcoming, and meaningful. The Mission Statement is to enhance the quality of life for the families and individuals in the community by providing them with exceptional parks, trails, facilities, and recreational activities that foster overall well-being. Under the direction of the Athletics Supervisor, the Youth Athletics Instructor provides an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of participants while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play.

Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff and general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work
  • Reliable transportation or a means to making it to work shifts on time
  • Ability to understand, comprehend, and follow all policies and procedures as well as verbalized and written instructions directed by management
  • Must be 15 years of age
  • Working knowledge of sports program instruction
  • Ability to effectively teach by demonstration, explanation, and positive feedback
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, mornings, weekends, and holidays

  • Previous sports program instruction experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming environment for all participants and patrons
  • Record scores and other league info to Athletics Supervisor when necessary
  • Minimizes hazardous situations by enforcing rules and regulations that govern the conduct of participants and patrons and ensuring safety within the program
  • Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork
  • Must maintain a positive and respectful attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons and co-workers
  • Dress and appearance are consistent with Athletics department standards including uniform requirements and personal hygiene
  • Follow all Trails Park and Recreation District's policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
