About The Position

The Town of Wasaga Beach is seeking a creative, energetic and self-motivated individual to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Part Time Youth Assistant. Reporting to the Supervisor, Recreation Services and the Youth Programmer, the Youth Centre Assistants will work as a team and be responsible for the controlled entry access; supervision, guidance and direction of the youth membership; and safe, smooth operation of the Youth Centre and its schedule. Contributing to the creation, implementation and evaluation of a variety of recreation programs for youth. All duties must be performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Municipal policies, procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Post-secondary education in recreation and leisure services, sport administration, child and youth worker, social studies or equivalent
  • Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification
  • One (1) year of previous related job experience working with youth 12 to 17 years of age
  • Strong social media skills and a proven record of success in promoting youth activities
  • Strong interpersonal and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Ability to lead, work with and contribute positively to a service oriented team
  • General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • A current, acceptable Criminal Reference Record – Vulnerable Sector
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license in good standing and ability to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Ability to work afternoons and weekends when the Youth Centre is open or for special events

Nice To Haves

  • Coaching experience in sport and certifications through NCCP or other sport specific accreditation including Hi Five
  • Experience facilitating and delivering various recreation programs, such as: sports programs, drama/crafts and musical programs, youth events and tournaments
  • Experience with committees
