About The Position

The YMCA of Indiana County is seeking a dependable and caring Youth and Family Worker to provide childcare, participant support, instruction, and leadership within Youth and Family programs. This position helps create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for children and families while supporting programs such as Child Watch, Birthday Parties, Family Events, Special Programs, Toddler Programs, and Individual Instruction. The Youth and Family Worker will work directly with children and families, assist with activities and programs, and help ensure participants have a safe, positive, and enjoyable YMCA experience. Employees are expected to demonstrate the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all aspects of their work.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 months of experience interacting with or caring for children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, volunteers, and team members.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate age-appropriate skills and activities.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to safety and emergency situations.
  • FBI Fingerprint (Department of Human Services)
  • Pennsylvania State Police PATCH
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
  • Mandated Reporter training
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED and Great American Academy certifications are required within 90 days of hire.
  • SFSP training is required for employees whose assigned duties include participation in the Summer Food Service Program.
  • CACFP training is required for employees whose assigned duties include participation in the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a childcare, educational, recreational, or youth program setting.
  • Experience leading or assisting with children's activities and programs.
  • YMCA experience or familiarity with YMCA programs and values.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and interact with children while maintaining a safe and positive environment.
  • Provide support for assigned Youth and Family programs and activities.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of participants.
  • Assist with age-appropriate activities, games, and instruction.
  • Assist with program setup, cleanup, and maintaining safe, clean, and functional program areas.
  • Follow YMCA policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain attendance records and other program documentation as required.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency and safety situations.
  • Attend required meetings and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
