About The Position

The Yoga Instructor provides therapeutic yoga sessions for patients in a mental health inpatient setting. The role supports patients' emotional regulation, stress reduction, and mind-body awareness as part of a multidisciplinary treatment approach. Sessions are adapted to meet a wide range of psychiatric conditions, physical abilities, and acuity levels.

Requirements

  • Certified Yoga Instructor
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals in acute psychiatric distress
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm, grounded, and responsive
  • Basic understanding of mental health conditions and de-escalation techniques

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hospitals, behavioral health units, or residential treatment settings
  • Additional certifications (e.g., trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction, adaptive yoga)
  • Familiarity with safety protocols in locked or secure units

Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, structured yoga sessions for a group of inpatient psychiatric patients
  • Adapt practices (movement, breathing, meditation) for varying diagnoses.
  • Monitor patient engagement, behavior, and safety during sessions; respond appropriately to distress or escalation - collaborate with clinical staff.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and uphold patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
