About The Position

The Yardman is responsible for the safe operation and handling of heavy-duty industrial equipment in the yard, including rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) and heavy-capacity forklifts.

Requirements

  • Planning/Organizing: Prioritizes tasks effectively to meet project deadlines; Manages workload efficiently, minimizing downtime; works with a sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy and quality
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in design, assembly, and inspections; identifies potential defects or malfunctions before they become issues.
  • Effective Communication: Delivers clear, accurate information across oral, written, and digital platforms, including email to ensure comprehension; Maintains professionalism, produces error-free written materials, and actively listens to foster positive and productive interactions
  • ERP/MRP Systems (Epicor): Understand ERP/MRP system principles and best practices; specifically Epicor; Able to navigate and utilize software effectively.
  • Operational Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of applicable operating, documentation procedures, and material flow
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrates knowledge of heavy equipment, crane operations, and mechanical systems; Understands industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices; Troubleshoots and maintains heavy equipment and crane systems
  • Forklift Operation: Able to operate forklift if required
  • Basic Math: Basic math knowledge (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years experience with operating heavy equipment with the ability to read/ interpret parts/ service manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate cranes and other yard equipment to properly load and unload trucks and move equipment as necessary.
  • Safely rigging material with finished products.
  • Maintain a clean and organized yard.
  • Return equipment to the proper yard location (i.e. maintenance, damaged, rental ready, etc.).
  • Will successfully complete and understand all required safety trainings.
  • Performs daily inspection and maintenance on yard equipment and tools.
  • Special projects or work as assigned.
