About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Yard Worker performs a variety of yard activities, including operating a forklift to move products and materials throughout the yard, and provides customer service. The role assists customers with locating and loading products, checks loaded materials against invoices or requisitions, and completes and routes paperwork. It also involves maintaining product placement and inventory stocking, routine yard cleanup, and following safety procedures to prevent injury. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve changing weather and temperatures, equipment noise, and dust. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 80 pounds, and physically operate a forklift, including climbing into and out of the cab, twisting to maintain 360-degree visibility, and using the controls.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and six months of experience performing these or similar tasks, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• OSHA Forklift Certification.
• Ability to operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures relevant to the work.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of company products and inventory available at the work location.
• Ability to follow detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions using common sense.
• Ability to read and understand invoices and requisitions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to physically operate forklift equipment, including climbing into and out of the cab, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using the controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating and loading products.
• Review materials loaded against invoices or requisitions and complete and route paperwork appropriately.
• Move products and materials throughout the yard and place them in the correct areas.
• Ensure products and materials are adequately stocked in inventory at all times.
• Perform routine yard cleanup.
• Observe safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self and coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
