About The Position

This Yard Worker – Shunter position ensures that trucks and trailers are safely and properly moved in the yard through coordination with the operations team and wash bay. The shift is Monday - Friday, Nights from 8pm-4:30am, with compensation of $27.59/hr + $1/hr shift premium.

Requirements

  • One year (1) of experience equivalent to the job description required.
  • AZ license (Class 1) license preferred.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and a team player.
  • A positive attitude, dependable, and respectful with clients and co-workers.
  • Good understanding of safe work practices and ability to safely operate dock equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Move trailers in and out of dock as per dock instructions via radio or satellite.
  • Ensure reefers are set at the right temperature.
  • Maintain an organised yard (placing trailers/trucks in their appropriate locations).
  • Perform visual pre-trips on equipment before backing into the dock. Report any failures to appropriate personnel.
  • Wash and sanitize trailers as needed. Reports must be completed and handed to the Shift Supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Wash and sanitize outside carrier trailers as needed.
  • Perform yard checks including tenant copies to be submitted to dispatch and the dock personnel. Visual checks must be performed every 3 hours. Must verify fuel levels on loaded equipment and fuel if necessary.
  • Understand and be able to set appropriate temperatures on reefers. Understand different temperature settings (Dual Temps, different zones).
  • Check oil in shunt trucks, plus other designated mechanical checks on trucks and trailers.
  • Report mechanical defects on trucks and trailers immediately to the Driver Supervisor, Shop Mechanic, or Dispatcher.
  • Assist in the clearing of the snow around the building in winter months when necessary.
  • Ensure all vehicles are plugged in during winter months.
  • Understand company Occupational Safety and Health regulations and abide by all company policies and procedures. Always be aware of safety sensitive areas.
  • Monitor Fleet Sweep during Winter months.
  • All other duties as required.
