Operating under the RONA banner, our Burnaby location is one of the region’s busiest hubs—supporting residential, commercial, and industrial projects of all sizes. We are looking for an experienced, organized, and people‑focused Yard & Warehouse Manager to lead our operations, support our team, and ensure our customers continue to receive the exceptional service Dick’s Lumber is known for.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, and support yard and warehouse staff.
  • Proven experience managing in a unionized environment.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid knowledge of lumber, building materials, and hardware products.
  • Professional, courteous, punctual, and committed to exceptional customer service.
  • Positive attitude and strong team‑player mindset.
  • Excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and related legislation.
  • Supervising: 5 years (required)
  • Unionized management experience: (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Lumber/building‑supply industry: 3 years (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership by directing work activities, setting priorities, delegating tasks, and monitoring performance.
  • Establish performance standards and coordinate training for all yard personnel, including safety orientations, forklift training, and certification renewals.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and ensure all required certifications remain current.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and customers, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Strengthen operational alignment between yard and store teams to support seamless customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with operational and safety policies; serve as the Management Representative on the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Maintain high customer‑service standards by establishing clear expectations and ensuring consistent execution.
  • Recommend efficient yard and warehouse layouts to reduce damage, minimize shrink, and improve workflow.
  • Oversee cyclical and year‑end inventory counts and maintain adequate stock levels; report shortages to the buying department.
  • Ensure all paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate basic building and yard repairs to maintain a safe, functional environment.
  • Manage equipment and vehicle usage to minimize downtime and control expenses.
  • Perform additional job‑related duties as required.
