About The Position

Tibbetts Lumber Co. LLC, a Lumber and Building materials employer is seeking a full-time Yard Supervisor. This role involves leading and directing employees, overseeing the loading, unloading, and movement of materials, ensuring equipment is maintained, and assisting customers. The supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining the yard's cleanliness and safety, and may perform the same duties as other yard personnel on occasion.

Requirements

Advanced knowledge of yard and product activities on location including component or materials’ weights and methods of loading.
Advanced knowledge of operation and handling of all machinery and equipment used in the yard; maintains certification to operate such if required.
Ability to plan and coordinate work processes to maintain and increase manpower and equipment efficiency.
Ability to read and write work schedules and reports.
Knowledge of basic math, counting, and estimating.
Customer Service orientation.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
5 years of yard operations experience or equivalent education.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

A valid Class A CDL driver’s license is preferred but not required.
Bilingual is a plus in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

Leads and directs employees including assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work progress and accuracy, providing guidance, addressing escalated issues, and training less experienced team members.
May provide input on the performance of assigned employees to management.
Loading, unloading, and movement of materials on the premises, utilizing material handling equipment and machinery.
Receiving yard materials, and instructing yard workers in receiving and storage procedures.
Ensures that employees receive proper training and certification, if necessary, to operate equipment and machinery used in the yard.
Ensures that equipment is serviced on schedule and maintained effectively.
Inspects loading operation for outgoing to delivery to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations.
Prepares bills of lading and packing slips.
Provides on-the-job training to outside or new yard employees including product knowledge of items stored in the yard and warehouse; housekeeping and safety procedures.
On occasion, will perform the same duties as other yard personnel.
Ensures that outside areas are kept neat and clean and scraps and yard debris are appropriately recycled or disposed of.
Reports safety hazards and handles remedial action.
Assists customers in loading and load building.
Provides delivery status information, inventory availability, and answers related questions.
Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers.
Attends periodic safety meetings as required, and may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
