About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a Yard Spotter to join our team. This role involves the safe operation of a Yard Truck to move trailers to and from loading docks, navigate tight spaces, and assist with product movement. The position requires attention to detail for equipment inspections and documentation, as well as strong communication skills to coordinate with drivers and staff. Requirements

• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally during shift.
• Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work weekends/ flexible schedule.

Nice To Haves

• Previous yard spotter/jockey experience helpful but not required.
• OTR experience is helpful but not required.
• Forklift certified or able to be certified.

Responsibilities

• Safe operation and proper use of the Yard Truck while moving trailers to and from loading docks.
• Safely navigate in tight spaces.
• Move products on CHEP Pallets onto and off trailers and into storage racks (requires forklift certification or ability to be certified).
• Perform daily inspection of equipment, timely reporting of any issues to management, and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation of trailer movement and condition.
• Communicate and coordinate with truck drivers, staff, and management to ensure smooth and safe operation.
• Climb in and out of vehicles and other material handling equipment frequently.
• Work in various outdoor climates.
• Work a second shift schedule with extended hours at times (vacations) and on short notice (call out).
• Work weekends when required.
• Utilize good housekeeping and GMP standards.
• Maintain consistent attendance.
