About The Position

Ryder is hiring a CDL A Yard Truck Driver in University Park, Illinois. This local, home-daily position involves working solo on the yard and driving a yard tractor. The work includes freight that may be touch or no-touch, using 48'-53' flatbed and Conestoga trailers. Ryder will train drivers on Conestoga trailers. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday on the PM shift, with 50 or more hours per week. Pay is $27.50 per hour, with overtime after 40 hours, and weekly pay of $1,515 or more. Paid training is provided.

Drivers operate well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance support and fueling at Ryder maintenance locations. Drivers are empowered to make safety decisions. The position can accommodate automatic restrictions.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Have 6 months of flatbed experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load or unload freight, or assist with loading or unloading freight if required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
