About The Position

This position supports Melton’s Operations Department at the Laredo Yard. It exercises independent judgment and discretion while verifying load compliance with DOT and company regulations through inspections. The role also manages traffic control and yard logistics, and coordinates communication among brokers, drivers, Mexican carriers, and Operations leadership. The schedule is four days on and four days off, with 10-hour shifts and a one-hour meal break.

Requirements

High school diploma required.
Forklift certification and two years of experience operating a 30,000-pound forklift.
Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to communicate clearly, handle stressful situations, pay close attention to detail, and demonstrate good organizational skills.
Ability to work as a team player and make sound decisions with little supervision.
Ability to work outdoors in the elements.
Ability to talk, hear, sit, write, and type; safely climb on top of a flatbed trailer occasionally; and lift 90 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Customer service or logistics experience preferred.
Driving or yard jockey experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Inspect loads for damage and proper placement to ensure compliance with DOT, Melton, and safety standards; adjust loads as required using a forklift.
Ensure loads in the yard are tarped and secured, and assist drivers with tarping or securement when required.
Dispatch drivers based on customer and freight needs.
Update driver status and load notes in the dispatch system.
Assist the Laredo Operations team with administrative functions as needed.
Prioritize yard movements and position trailers and trucks to maintain optimal yard flow.
Assist drivers and external carriers with operational or load concerns while on the yard.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe yard.
Report potential problems that may affect service or profitability.
Perform other duties as assigned.
