About The Position

The Yard Manager is responsible for running day-to-day yard operations while gaining full visibility into all functions of the yard. This role leads frontline teams, coordinates workflow, and builds the operational knowledge needed to drive performance, safety, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 5 years+ in specialized profession or equivalent; Proficient in specialty, including prior senior lead/supervisor experience; Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Previous heavy equipment operation, general maintenance, and understanding of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics.
  • Frequently communicates complex information across departments and interacts with management.
  • Can present, resolve and address delicate situations.
  • Can motivate and persuade others.
  • Problems are varied and complex, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation.
  • Problems are solved using knowledge and skills, general precedents and practices.
  • Decisions impact the management and operations within a department or business unit.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive background and heavy equipment experience preferred.
  • Previous heavy equipment operation, some computer skills, general maintenance and understanding of mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for opening the site each morning.
  • Responsible for making sure the site is accessible for the start of production.
  • Unload haulers and stage cars for the inventory department to inventory.
  • Support dismantling by bringing unprocessed cars to be dismantled and placing vehicles back in the yard.
  • Crush vehicles that have reached their useful life.
  • Support the cuts bay.
  • Empty the scrap bins.
  • Oversee yard operations personnel.
  • Maintain Inventory locations and the integrity of vehicles placed in the yard.
  • Load scrap haulers with crushed cars that are ready for final disposal.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
  • Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards.
  • Responsible for hiring, terminating, training, developing, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action for staff.
