About The Position

JB Harris Transport LLC is seeking an experienced and strategic Yard Manager to oversee operations at its heavy equipment yard. The role manages daily yard activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, logistics coordination, and team leadership, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The Yard Manager leads and develops yard personnel, oversees equipment scheduling and logistics for rentals, deliveries, and returns, and ensures equipment is maintained, cleaned, and inspected according to company standards and safety regulations. The role also manages inventory and assets, coordinates repairs and maintenance, monitors supplies, and implements safety and compliance practices.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in heavy equipment yard management, operations, or logistics.
• At least 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
• Strong understanding of heavy equipment types, maintenance requirements, and logistics operations.
• Leadership skills and ability to manage and develop a team.
• Knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, and yard management best practices.
• Experience managing budgets and operational expenses.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to regularly stand and walk, and occasionally work at heights or with heavy equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Logistics, Operations, or a related field; equivalent experience is considered.
• Familiarity with yard management software.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the heavy equipment yard to maintain smooth workflows and efficiency.
• Manage scheduling, dispatch, and logistics for equipment rentals, deliveries, and returns.
• Ensure equipment is maintained, cleaned, and inspected according to company standards and safety regulations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop yard personnel, including equipment operators, inventory associates, and general labor staff.
• Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing training.
• Promote teamwork, safety, and accountability in line with company values and goals.
• Oversee inbound and outbound equipment inventory processes, ensuring accurate tracking, timely availability, and proper asset utilization.
• Coordinate with the facility maintenance team, customer managers, and account managers on equipment repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
• Monitor spare parts, fuel, and supply inventory, and coordinate reorders as needed.
• Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures for employees and visitors.
• Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and audits to uphold company standards and OSHA regulations.
• Investigate and report safety incidents and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Manage budgets and operational expenses.
