About The Position

The Yard Maintenance Cleaner performs tasks assigned by the Yard Maintenance Supervisor and Site Services Foreman efficiently and safely, with attention to workmanship quality. The role conducts daily inspections focused on exterior facilities and keeps yard-stored equipment, containers, gas bottles, mooring lines, and related items orderly. Yard Maintenance employees are the primary workforce supporting vessel launching, mooring, loading, and departure, and provide assistance to other Site Services activities as needed, including moving equipment, materials, and furniture; cleaning the site and vessels; and lawn and landscaping services.

The position requires operating industrial and extended-boom forklifts, working across multiple types of tasks, communicating effectively, following direction, and understanding company policies, procedures, and standards. Employees are responsible for Austal-issued hand tools and must follow company and applicable safety and environmental rules.

The work involves frequent standing and varied physical activity, occasional lifting, pushing, or pulling of heavy loads, climbing and working at heights, and working in confined spaces. Employees may encounter humid conditions, flashing lights, moving machinery, precarious heights, outdoor weather, extreme heat, loud noise, and occasional fumes, chemicals, and cold. Candidates must meet Austal USA’s stated age and U.S. person eligibility criteria and be willing to complete drug screening and a background check.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to operate industrial and extended-boom forklifts.
• Must be multi-skilled and able to achieve skill upgrades as required.
• Ability to communicate effectively and have a basic understanding of company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Ability to take direction and communicate with others.
• Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Person Status.
• Must not have felony convictions for theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years of the disposition date, or felony drug-crime convictions within three years of the disposition date.
• Must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background check.
• Must be able to perform the listed physical activities, including prolonged standing; bending, squatting, stooping, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and balancing; occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of 50–75 pounds and frequent lifting/pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds; and working above 12 feet and in confined spaces.
• Must be able to safely use required tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment and work on uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures and respond to verbal and audible commands.

Responsibilities

• Carry out tasks assigned by the Yard Maintenance Supervisor and Site Services Foreman efficiently, safely, and with attention to workmanship quality.
• Conduct daily inspections of facilities, focusing on exterior areas.
• Keep equipment, containers, gas bottles, mooring lines, and other items stored in the yard orderly.
• Support vessel launching, mooring, loading, and departure as a primary workforce function.
• Provide assistance to other Site Services activities as required, including moving equipment, materials, and furniture; cleaning the site and vessels; and lawn and landscaping services.
• Provide other assistance as directed during vessel launching, mooring, loading, and departure.
• Use and take responsibility for Austal-issued hand tools.
• Comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations while performing daily tasks.
