About The Position

The Yard Lead plays a critical role in overseeing and coordinating all activities within the yard to ensure efficient and safe operations. This position is responsible for managing the flow of materials, equipment, and personnel, ensuring that all tasks are completed on schedule and in compliance with safety standards. The Yard Lead acts as the primary point of contact for yard operations, facilitating communication between different teams and departments to optimize productivity. This role requires strong leadership to motivate and guide yard staff, resolve operational issues promptly, and maintain a well-organized work environment. Ultimately, the Yard Lead ensures that yard operations support the broader organizational goals by maintaining high standards of efficiency, safety, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in yard operations, logistics, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in yard or warehouse environments.
  • Ability to operate yard equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (certification preferred).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills daily to coordinate yard activities and manage personnel effectively.
  • Communication skills are essential for liaising between drivers, warehouse teams, and management to ensure clarity and efficiency.
  • Technical skills, including the operation of yard equipment and familiarity with inventory systems, enable the Yard Lead to oversee material handling and maintain accurate records.
  • Problem-solving abilities are critical for addressing operational challenges and ensuring continuous workflow.
  • A thorough understanding of safety protocols is applied consistently to uphold a secure working environment for all yard staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with inventory management systems and yard management software.
  • Forklift operator certification and other relevant equipment operation licenses.
  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience in a logistics or warehouse setting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily yard operations, including the movement and storage of materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate and communicate with drivers, warehouse staff, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Monitor safety compliance and enforce company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assign tasks and provide guidance to yard personnel to meet operational deadlines.
  • Conduct regular inspections of yard equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of yard activities, inventory, and equipment usage.
  • Resolve operational issues and conflicts promptly to minimize disruptions.
  • Train new yard staff on procedures, safety protocols, and best practices.
