About The Position

The primary purpose of the Yard Jockey is to safely and efficiently move trailers and containers throughout the facility yard, keeping dock doors supplied on schedule, the yard organized, and trailer locations accurately recorded, so that inbound and outbound freight flows without delay.

Requirements

  • 0-1+ years as a yard jockey, spotter, or truck driver preferred – logistics, warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing – experience backing, hooking, and unhooking trailers.
  • Basic use of handheld scanners, tablets, or a yard management system (YMS); two-way radio.
  • Must be able to work in extreme conditions including rain, heat, cold, and dust.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow all JHSAs, technical specifications, and work instructions for the assigned process task.
  • Strong sense of teamwork and cooperation; must be dedicated and have an excellent attendance record.
  • A positive attitude, open mind, and controlled composure in all workplace interactions.
  • Strong sense of urgency and the ability to work without constant supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and peers.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A if required by the site).
  • Precise trailer backing and strong spatial awareness.
  • Clear communication, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather, climb in and out of the cab frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently move trailers and containers throughout the facility yard.

  • Keep the yard organized.
  • Accurately record trailer locations.
  • Perform routine mechanical and quality inspections of equipment and raw materials.
  • Assist in the installation of all new equipment, components, and systems, or the improvement of existing equipment, components, and systems as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance procedures as scheduled or directed.
