About The Position

US Foods is seeking a Yard Jockey to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of the distribution center by managing the movement of trailers. The Yard Jockey will communicate with dispatchers and supervisors to ensure equipment is assigned correctly and moved efficiently between buildings. Responsibilities include moving trailers, staging them for shuttle drivers, preparing them for backhauls, and ensuring all equipment is ready for the next day's deliveries. The position requires collaboration with mechanics and attendance at company meetings. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have valid driver's license issued by state of residence
  • Minimum of six months Non-CDL commercial driving experience preferred
  • Ability to operate manual transmission preferred; may be required in specific locations
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical
  • Must be able to read and communicate in the English language - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 20 to 80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift required
  • Comfortable driving and working in inclement weather conditions
  • Registering to the FMCSA Clearinghouse is a requirement by the Department of Transportation. All Drivers are required to the Clearinghouse website and register to the new database.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Dispatcher/Router for truck/trailer and door assignments
  • Keep assigned equipment coupled
  • Move trailers between buildings as directed by Router or Warehouse Supervisor
  • Load, unload or merge loads between environments
  • Stage shuttle trailers nightly for shuttle drivers
  • Set up trailers for backhaul with tractor and empty pallets
  • Place backhauls in correct door to be unloaded by warehouse
  • Make sure all equipment is paired and ready for next day's deliveries
  • Work with mechanics nightly
  • Attend all required company meetings
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
