About The Position

SA Recycling is one of the largest scrap metal recyclers in the United States and is experiencing significant growth. We are seeking a Yard Jockey to join our high-energy team and contribute to our customer service goals. The Yard Jockey will be responsible for moving and organizing various trailers around the yard, operating a semi-truck within company premises to collect and return containers, and maintaining the yard as a Lite driver. This role requires professional conduct with customers and adherence to all in-yard driving rules and traffic controller directions. The position involves working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, strictly following SA Recycling's Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to communicate with others effectively.
Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions.
All US applicants must be 21 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.
Able to take direction from multiple people.

Responsibilities

Move and organize various trailers around the yard.
Operate a semi-truck inside the yard (not driving outside company premises).
Collect fully loaded containers and return empty containers.
Conduct themselves professionally when dealing with customers and their employees.
Follow all in-yard rules for driving in close quarters and all traffic controllers.
Pre and post inspection of equipment.
Maintain records of inspections.
Perform basic maintenance of crucial aspects of the equipment.
Communicate with mechanics to ensure preventative maintenance is done regularly.
Daily inspection of trailers in the bull pen and providing a comprehensive list of transportation equipment currently on the yard.
Work interdepartmentally with supervisors and peers to meet the needs of departments responsible for maintaining, unloading, and assigning trailers.
Communicate across all departments to ensure the safe movement of equipment through the yard.
Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
Perform daily operation and safety inspection.
Communicate with Supervisor and material handler to determine commodities to load.
Work independently when driving scrap metal.
Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
Clean up work area at the end of shift.
Keep work areas neat and orderly.
Organize materials for more effective use of space.
Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed.
Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and hygienic conditions.
