About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is hiring a Yard Jockey Non-CDL position. This role offers steady, year-round work with an hourly pay rate of $21.27. Interstate Waste Services is a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and has expanded into Pennsylvania and Ohio. The company serves a diverse range of customers and prioritizes employee, customer, and environmental safety, while maintaining a family-style culture. The Yard Jockey will be responsible for operating trucks for waste and recycling pick-up services, transporting materials to disposal or recycling facilities, and may make multiple trips per shift. Both manual and automatic trucks are used. The role may require lifting up to 50 pounds, moving and maneuvering up to 100 pounds, and repeatedly mounting and dismounting the truck.

Requirements

  • 21 Years of Age & Legally Eligible to Work in the United States
  • Valid Class A or B CDL
  • Airbrake Endorsement
  • 1-year CDL driving experience in the last 7 years.
  • Great Safety Record and Clean MVR
  • Working Knowledge of DOT, OSHA & Applicable Traffic Regulations
  • Ability to Speak & Read English to Converse with the General Public, understand Highway Traffic & Signals, Respond to Official Questions & Make Legible Entries on Reports & Records
  • Read & Understand a Map
  • Meet Physical & Safety Requirements of the Position.
  • Willing & Able to Work Required Worked Hours as Allowed Under DOT Regulation & May Include Weekend, Night &/Or Holiday Work

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Driver or Helper for a Refuge Company is Highly Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safely operating front, side, or rear-loading trucks for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
  • Transporting material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility, and may make one or more trips throughout the shift.
  • Performing pre and post-trip inspections of the truck.
  • Ensuring the truck is in compliance with IWS’s safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws prior to and while operating the vehicle.
  • Navigating through congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations.
  • Performing highly skilled backing maneuvers.
  • Routinely climbing in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts.
