About The Position

The Fleet Yard Helper at Leesel Transportation Corp. is responsible for ensuring Mini School buses leave the yard in a prearranged pattern, with earlier routes exiting first. This includes verifying driver pre-trip inspections and DVIRs, and ensuring the fleet starts earlier during winter months. The helper must also ensure all returning buses have a full gas tank and report/follow up on safety concerns. The role involves maneuvering buses in and out of the yard onto Webster Avenue, maintaining yard organization, and assisting the Fleet team in creating designated areas for 'out of service vehicles'. Additionally, the individual is responsible for sorting and safely keeping bus keys at Dispatch when buses are not in use. This position requires maintaining proper communication and professionalism with bus drivers/attendants and close collaboration with the Fleet and Shop teams. Leesel Transportation provides special and regular education transportation in the New York City area.

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time
• Ability to work in all weather conditions
• Willingness to adapt to changes
• Must wear uniform, and identifiable gear (Reflective vest, Steel toe shoe)

Nice To Haves

• CDL carrier preferable, endorsements optional

Responsibilities

• Ensure Mini School buses leave the yard in a prearranged pattern, with earlier routes to exit first
• Check that drivers are completing their pre-trip inspection, and DVIR
• Start the fleet earlier during the winter months
• Ensure all buses returning to the yard during the evenings have a full gas tank or close to
• Report and follow issues safety concerns
• Pull buses in and out of the yard onto Webster Avenue
• Maintain the organization of the yard
• Adapt to changes as the company moves towards a better structure path
• Assist Fleet in creating designated areas for 'out of service vehicles', and others
• Ensure Bus keys are sorted and safely kept (keys must remain at Dispatch when buses are not in use)
• Maintain proper communication & professionalism in the yard and outside the yard as he/she will always interact with bus drivers/attendants
• Work closely with the Fleet & the Shop
• Snow Removal
