About The Position

Xcel Energy is anticipating an opening for one or more Yard Equipment Attendant(s)-Rotating at the Allen S. King Generating Plant in Bayport, MN. This role involves operating MERP installed equipment, coal conveyors, and other associated coal yard equipment. The position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve working from scaffolding and catwalks in high and confined areas. There is a possibility of temporary assignments at other locations, including nuclear plants, which would require meeting NRC screening requirements. The rate of pay for this classification is $42.95 (2026 rate) with applicable rates for evening and night shift work.

Requirements

  • Mechanical ability and physical dexterity to operate MERP installed equipment, coal conveyors, and any other associated coal yard equipment.
  • Adequate experience as a Coal and Ash Handler.
  • Full knowledge of coal conveying systems and in-plant bunker management.
  • Ability to intelligently communicate constructively with plant personnel, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must pass the EEI POSS/MASS Test.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MERP installed equipment, coal conveyors, and any other associated coal yard equipment.
  • Actively participate in training and retraining programs as directed by plant management.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work a scheduled rotating shift.
  • Function under written operating and maintenance procedures as required by management.
  • Perform duties or work when necessary, from scaffolding and catwalks in high and confined areas.
  • Accept temporary assignments at other locations including nuclear plants as prescribed by plant management and meet screening requirements under NRC regulations.
