Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 78lbs
  • Push/Pull items with a maximum force of 34 lbs/feet
  • At least six months of yard driver experience in a vehicle of similar size and weight.
  • Proficiency in backing trailers into dock doors and parking slips.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid CDL driver's license.
  • Climb in and out of the spotter truck numerous times per day, hooking and unhooking trailers.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving experience.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate spotter trucks to move trailers to and from dock doors, loading areas, and storage locations within the yard, hooking and unhooking trailers
  • Keep the yard clean and organized, ensuring that trailers are parked in designated areas and that there is a clear path for movement
  • Follow all CHEP and regulatory safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to traffic laws within the yard.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of yard trucks and trailers to ensure they are in safe operating condition, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, including the location, time, and any issues encountered.
  • Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, loaders, and Shipping and receiving clerks to ensure trailers are in the correct locations at the right times
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by management.
  • Assist operations in an active trailer yard, performing a variety of duties including operating a spotter truck.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the trailer yard through daily yard audits.
