The Yard Associate plays a key role in daily yard operations, ensuring efficient and accurate loading and unloading of materials, assisting customers with order pickups, maintaining inventory organization, and operating heavy equipment such as forklifts. This position requires strong attention to detail, a safety-first mindset, and a customer-focused attitude.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in retail, warehouse, or yard operations; lumber or building materials experience strongly preferred
  • Proven experience operating forklifts or other heavy equipment (certification preferred or must be able to obtain)
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly; physical capability to climb, bend, reach, and work in varying weather conditions
  • Must be available to work overtime and Saturdays as needed
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, courteous assistance to customers and delivery drivers in the yard.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to load and unload trucks.
  • Stage and build loads according to delivery schedules, order accuracy, and customer preferences.
  • Verify all orders before loading to ensure correct material type, quantity, and condition.
  • Perform daily inspections on forklifts and report any mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain yard inventory through cycle counts and replenishment; assist in receiving and stocking material.
  • Keep the yard, storage areas, and workspaces clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Perform light facility maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Use company vehicles to pick up or deliver materials locally, as assigned.
  • Adhere to all company safety procedures and policies at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
