About The Position

Under direct supervision, yard assistants perform a variety of general manual labor tasks including but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading of trucks, and other activities in a helping or assisting role. This is a full-time position at the Healdsburg branch, with work hours from Monday to Friday, starting at 10 am.

Requirements

0 to 2 years previous experience in the industry
Good knowledge of lumber products
Ability to model the Capital values and to provide innovative solutions
Ability to deliver high quality, detailed error-free work on a consistent basis
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English to the extent required to receive and communicate information as necessary to the position
Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday
Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday

Responsibilities

Yard clean up
Product receiving, breakdown, and handling
Operating yard equipment such as saws or tugs
Picking up foreign material in the yard to maintain a safe work environment and clean appearance
Collecting recyclable materials and storing them as directed
Sweeping the yard safely using a mechanical sweeper if available
Reviewing supply inventory with Supervisor to maintain necessary levels
Notifying Supervisor of any maintenance or safety issues observed
Manually stacking lumber products as instructed
Assisting with inventory and/or cycle counts as directed
Operating a gas-powered tug to move lumber products
Packaging materials and keeping the packaging area clean and organized
Keeping all lanes and other areas clean and clear for traffic
Assisting in general yard housekeeping and chores as assigned
Using a saw to cut lengths from lumber as needed to fill an order if properly trained
Keeping an inventory of stickers, corners, and wrap
Occasionally bar coding
Performing other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor
Being flexible and adaptable to changes that will occur during the course of employment
