About The Position
The Y serves thousands of families a year by providing safe, fun, and engaging after-school programs for their children. When regular staff need time off, substitutes step in and keep the magic going for the kids. As a substitute you'll help to ensure a positive atmosphere with homework enrichment, physical activity, healthy snacks, group activities and positive relationships.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 (high school diploma/GED required in KS)
- Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions
- Able to actively engage with and supervise children in a range of indoor and outdoor activities — this is an on-your-feet role that takes energy and alertness
- A genuine interest in helping kids learn, play, and grow
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience working with school-age children is a plus (babysitting, nannying, camp, childcare programs, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Keep kids safe, engaged, and having a great time
- Help with homework, games, crafts, sports, and snack time
- Build positive relationships with kids, families, and co-workers
- Follow YMCA safety and child protection procedures at all times
- Model the Y's core values: caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility
- Respond to sub requests promptly and pick up shifts regularly — your reliability is what keeps our sites running
