About The Position

The Xray Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the medical practice. As an Xray Technologist, you will be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. You will provide information to patients so they may utilize and benefit from the clinical service. You will report to a Supervisor, Clinic Administration.

Requirements

• Registration as a radiologic technologist R.T.(R) through the ARRT
• Documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office or facility.
• Must have a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).
• Continuing education as required to maintain active / clear license in good standing with the State of Florida and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist.

Responsibilities

• Uses customer service principles and techniques to interact with patients and staff calmly and pleasantly.
• Performs assigned patient care responsibilities, including: checking schedules and organizing patient flow, escorting patients to exam or procedure room, assisting patients with walking, undressing, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation, collecting patient history, performing screenings according to provider guidelines, assisting physicians and nurses with procedures, sharing patient information, relaying instructions to patients and families, answering calls and providing relevant information.
• Performs assigned clerical responsibilities, including: sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab reports, X-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information, completing forms and requisitions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, managing and updating electronic medical records to ensure completeness.
• Performs assigned environmental responsibilities, including: setting up instruments and equipment according to protocols, cleaning exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits to maintain infection control, cleaning sterilizers according to the maintenance schedule and maintaining records, ordering, sorting, and storing supplies and restocking exam and procedure rooms.
• Performs clinical medical assisting duties as allowed by state law, including: checking vital signs and instruments, preparing patients for physical exams, verifying prescriptions with physician orders, disposing of and monitoring biohazard waste, assisting with therapeutic modalities, performing laboratory procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines, applying quality control methods, conducting CLIA-waived testing, performing capillary puncture, handling specimens such as urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum samples and providing first aid.
• Prepares patients for radiologic procedures.
• Protects patients, self, and staff from radiation hazards.
• Performs X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, including : setting up and operating radiographic equipment, supporting medical diagnosis and treatment and implementing infection control procedures in the work area.
• Selects appropriate ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis.
• Adjusts and sets radiographic controls.
• Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific body parts as ordered by physicians.
• Sends X-rays to appropriate medical staff.
• Maintains required records, including patient records and monthly reports.
• Performs quantity and quality control checks to ensure X-ray equipment meets legal, regulatory, and departmental standards.
• Complies with safety standards.
• Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including identifying repair needs.
• Communicates with clinical and clerical team members to support a patient-centered practice.
