About The Position

The X-Ray Technologist will work in a collaborative environment to provide superior patient care. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of X-ray images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the X-ray area. This position supports ColumbiaDoctors, one of the largest multi-specialty practices in the Northeast, comprising an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency.
  • A minimum of 6 months’ relevant experience.
  • NYS License, ARRT certified.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
  • Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
  • Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule).

Responsibilities

  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
  • Perform X-rays and general radiological procedures.
  • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided.
  • Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
  • Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
  • Observe patient while in the X-ray area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
  • Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
  • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
  • Assist radiologist with fluoroscopic studies.
  • Assist physician in administering opaque media.
  • Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
  • Address any service calls and follow up as required or as directed, based on operational need.
  • Other duties as assigned.
